Acoustic Panels for Schools and SEN Settings

Echo and background noise make classrooms, halls and dining rooms harder to learn in, and for many pupils with SEND they can make a room overwhelming. HD Wraps UK supplies and fits acoustic panels that absorb that noise, in bespoke printed designs or in standard shapes and colours. We work with SEN schools, mainstream primary and secondary schools, and colleges across the UK, and handle the survey, design, supply and installation.

Why acoustics matter in SEN settings

Hard walls and ceilings bounce sound around a room. The echo builds up and everyone talks louder to be heard. Autistic pupils, pupils with hearing impairment and pupils with attention or sensory processing needs are often the most affected. BB93, the Department for Education’s acoustics guidance for schools, sets tighter reverberation targets for rooms used by pupils with hearing or communication needs.

Acoustic panels soak up that reflected sound, so rooms feel calmer, speech is clearer and pupils are less likely to become overloaded. They work in classrooms, sensory and calm rooms, therapy rooms, halls, dining halls and corridors.

Bespoke printed acoustic panels

Because we are a school wall art company, we can print your acoustic panels with any design: your school values, a calm nature scene, a low-stimulation colour scheme, wayfinding symbols or artwork that matches your existing wall wraps. Our designers create the artwork with you, and you approve it before anything is made.

The printed face is a 100% polyester fabric chosen because sound passes straight through it, so the panel still absorbs noise properly. The print wraps around the panel edges for a clean, frameless finish.

Standard shapes, sizes and colours

If you’d rather keep it simple, choose from our standard range:

  • Wall panels: rectangles and squares from 1200 x 900mm up to 2700 x 1200mm, or made to any size within that
  • Shapes: circles, two-part circles, hexagons, triangles, pentagons, diamonds, ellipses, teardrops and clouds
  • Ceiling clouds and rafts: hung on adjustable steel cables, so they stay out of reach and need no electrical work
  • Thickness: 25mm or 40mm
  • Colours: 63 standard fabric colours, including a 100% recycled polyester range

Every colour has a published light reflectance value (LRV). That helps when you are planning colour contrast for pupils with visual impairment or choosing a low-arousal palette for SEN rooms.

Acoustic ratings

Sound absorption tested to BS EN ISO 354:

Panel Absorption class NRC
40mm, fixed to wall or ceiling Class A 0.90
40mm, ceiling raft with 100mm suspension Class A 0.95
25mm, fixed to wall or ceiling Class C 0.85

Class A is the highest sound absorption class. For SEN rooms, halls and dining halls we recommend 40mm, because it absorbs much more of the low, boomy sound that makes a room feel loud. 25mm suits smaller rooms and tighter budgets.

Fire ratings

  • Acoustic core: recycled glass wool board, Class 0 to BS 476 Part 6
  • Standard fabric facing: Class 1 to BS 476 Part 7, and Euroclass B when adhered to the panel
  • Class 0 fabric: available on request

Fire test documentation is available for your estates team. For printed panels, we confirm the fire classification of the printed facing with your quote.

Acoustic Panel FAQs

They reduce echo and background noise, which makes rooms calmer and speech easier to follow. That particularly helps pupils with autism, hearing impairment or sensory processing needs. They work best alongside other good classroom practice.

40mm panels are Class A sound absorbers and take out more low-frequency sound, so we recommend them for SEN rooms, halls and dining halls. 25mm panels are Class C and suit smaller rooms or tighter budgets.

Yes. The acoustic core is Class 0 to BS 476 Part 6, and the standard fabric is Class 1 to BS 476 Part 7 (Euroclass B when adhered). Class 0 fabric is available on request, and fire test documentation is available.

Yes. We print any design onto an acoustically transparent polyester face, from school values and nature scenes to calm colour schemes. Our designers create the artwork with you, and you approve it before anything is made.

Wall panels are fixed with clips and contact adhesive. Ceiling clouds hang on adjustable steel cables. To clean, vacuum them occasionally and wipe marks with a damp cloth. Small posters can even be pinned to the wall panels.
